Waiting for Trains

Moving Forward the Work of God by Meeting Needs, Mending Hurts, Molding Lives

Waiting for Trains

“If the Lord Jehovah makes us wait, let us do so with our whole hearts; for blessed are all they that wait for Him. He is worth waiting for. The waiting itself is beneficial to us: it tries faith, exercises patience, trains submission, and endears the blessing when it comes. The Lord’s people have always been a waiting people.” — Charles Spurgeon

Last week, while making my way to my church office again, I found myself waiting — waiting on a train. This train and I have had many battles. I have had it run though my mind, when the lights were flashing and before the gates fell, to just go for it. Speed though and win the battle. What you need to understand is that this train has been a source of irritation, disruption and what I thought was wasted time.

So why was this time different? As I watched the train speed by and started my normal complaining and moaning session, God began speaking in His still small voice: “This is a perfect time to wait on Me!”

Wow — all the wasted time, all the irritation was gone. I heard, and for six minutes gave God my full attention. My life was changed.

Lamentations 3:25 reads, “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.”

So I encourage you, fellow runners in Christ, whether it is a train or the 20 or less checkout line at the store (when that person ahead of you has 30 items), you have a choice. Are you going to lose your peace and be irritated? Or are you going to take that time and wait on our God who wants to show His goodness to you? The choice is yours. I’ve learned my lesson — I’m waiting on Him!

Love you all, Pastor Dave and Missy
